Q:Is LHS Fifty Fest the biggest event of La Follette High’s 50th celebration year?
A: It’s definitely one of the biggies but there will be other big events as well. Homecoming festivities for 2013 will offer many ways for alumni to reconnect, Homecoming 2013 will feature the opening of the time capsule from the LHS 25th Anniversary. There are plans for an alumni choir concert on the evening of Saturday, March 29, at La Follette and the All School Reunion Gala to take place Saturday, July 19 of 2014 (location TBA )
Q: Why aren’t LHS Fifty Fest of July 2013 and the 50th Anniversary Gala of 2014 being held during homecoming weeks of 2013 and 2014 respectively?
A: These events are being held during summer in order to better accommodate those will be traveling long distances
Q: What was the process for making the decisions thus far?
A: The LHS 50th Anniversary Steering committee formed in 2010 and heard from representatives from other high schools to learn about ideas that worked well. During the summer of 2011 two “Mindmapping Sessions” were held. These sessions were advertised through the La Follette Facebook page and through class contact people. Ideas were generated at both sessions and via the Face Book page and then subsequently grouped into the dates where they fit best. For example, Class Clown Comedy, School Tours, and Battle of the Bands were three separate ideas originally, but they were grouped into the larger LHS FIfty Fest kick off event on July 20, 2013 (“Class Clown Comedy” morphed into “Lancers Got Talent”)..
Q: Is it too late to suggest additional ideas to be included in the year of celebration? Can I suggest ways of getting things done?
A: Ideas are always welcome! Email us with additional comments and inquiries.
